For the last 5 years I have created a mix that contains songs that I think are the perfect soundtrack for those hot days and cool nights of summer. They actually have turned out quite nice and have become some of my favorite mixes I have made (not to toot my own horn or anything). I could post them all and just give a few tracks and list the rest but I think what I am going to do is do a best of sort of thing. So here it is the first official full length mix made especially for RopBop titled RopBopWeHopeSummerDon'tEverStop! You can't have a good summer mix with out hand claps. I like to think of this song as a good summer song to wake up to.
1.)T.Rex - Ride The White Swan
This song is funny especially the part about the cow. This one also has that morning air about it. It makes me think of seeing the sun glinting off of the morning dew.
2.)The Mountain Goats - Cheshire County (Peel Session On Mix)
Simple, not to hard on the ears and also something to make you smile and still has that whole waking up still vibe.
3.)Herman Dune - Seven Cities (No Longer Available)
Just an amazing song in every way and screams summer.
4.)Animal Collective - Summertime Clothes
This is one of my staple workout songs. Maybe not a summer song lyricaly but it's happy, has a kid chorus, and a beat that makes me want to move.
5.)Passion Pit - Little Secrets
"Come and open up your folding chair next to me/My feet are buried in the sand and there's a breeze" I am quickly falling in love with Regina, listen to this song and do the same.
6.)Regina Spektor - Folding Chair
For some reason I always associate traffic back ups with summertime. Maybe it's because of all the construction, maybe it's because of all the people out on vacation, maybe it's because of this bands name and this song title.
7.)Two Hours Traffic - Stuck For The Summer
Another song that screams summer. The original version is pretty neat but I think Dr.Dog kills it with their tropical take. Put down the top, don the shades and jump on that strip next to the beach.
8.)Dr.Dog - Heart It Races (Architecture In Helsinki Cover)
This ones isn't so much lyrically about summer but how can you not love the singing and the pounding drums. This song is like a rhythmic fireworks display with soul.
9.)Florence and The Machine - Dog Days Are Over
This song is nothing short of pure excellence. Lyrics about rivers and streams and fire and a backwoods feel. Perfect song for floating down a river.
10.)Akron/Family - The River
If you visited a psychic city and this was their theme song I bet they'd predict that you will have this song stuck in your head and you might have to pee while listening to it.
11.)YAHCT - Psychic City
I always have the feeling that I have used this song before when putting it on mixes for people and even when I decided to post it here. High voices, hand claps and pop-punk fun are always winners.
12.)Travoltas - C'mon Rock City (No Longer Available)
This song is laid back, easy to learn. "Nothing feels good like you in red and blue jeans and your white and night things, doo doo (lotta times)"
13.)The Promise Ring - Red And Blue Jeans
WOOHOO! Yeah! Hippie Music! I love this song so much. I don't know who Uncle John is but I want to join his band, unless he's a dirty uncle. Dirty. Hippie. Get it?!
14.)The Grateful Dead - Uncle John's Band
Ahh, this one reminds me of sitting in a rocking chair on the porch of a run down house on a dirt road.
15.)Ray LaMontagne - Hey Me, Hey Mama
I have always been a HUGE Bright Eyes fan and I think every summer mix should include a Bright Eyes song especially if it's from Lifted
16.)Bright Eyes - Bowl Of Oranges
This will always remain one of my favorite songs to smoke to.
17.)Neva Dinova - Poison
M.Ward is a genius songwriter. This song is great for when the sun is just about gone and there is barely any daylight left.
18.)M. Ward - Chinese Translation
A summer fling played this song for me and told me that it made her think of me. The first time I heard it she played it over the phone, which made it even cooler.
19.)The Microphones - Oh Anna
Perfect night time song.
20.)Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Perfect not slow and not boring night time ending track.
21.)Kid Cudi - Heaven At Night
