Oniomania (from Greek onios = "for sale," mania = insanity) is a medical term for the compulsive desire to shop. Oniomania is the technical term for the compulsive desire to shop, more commonly referred to as compulsive shopping, compulsive buying, shopping addiction or shopaholism. I have a confession to make, I love shopping. Actually let me rephrase that. I love buying things. I will admit that I don't always go out with a shopping agenda, but spending countless hours in a mall or at a store drives me insane. There have been many occasions where I go out to say, Best Buy, looking to buy a CD I have been salivating over. I get there look at it and something else catches my eye and it starts. 3 hours and 10 stores later I find myself driving back home either empty handed and pissed at the time I wasted, or with about 5 other things I didn't plan on buying. I love this song because on one hand helps me justify buying those extras, and on the other hand it makes me realize how much of a whore I am to the retail industry.
Let me preface this with saying if you have never seen "Forgetting Sarah Marshall", you should. It's an Apatow (40 Year Old Virgin, Superbad) flick and it's pretty funny. I won't give to much away but the main character is a musician who writes back ground music for a television cop drama. His real ambition is his side project of a musical done entirely with puppets. The best part is that the musical is based on Dracula falling in love. When I saw this movie I fell in love with this idea. If I had the funds, any musical talent or wasn't afraid of getting sued I might just make it happen. Anyway, in the movie Jason Segel is trying to forget this girl with the help of the ever so sexy Mila Kunis (Jackie from that 70's show). They go to a bar and get drunk and with some coaxing he get's on stage and preforms this gem. It's hilarious, bittersweet, and really really short. I wish this song went on for another hour every time I hear it.
Jason Segal - Draculas Lament
It was the type of day that seemed like it would never end. You wondered if the person who built this place made those windows big intentionally just to taunt you on those beauitful days. The last hour oozing like by like the thickest sap, while your body surges with anticipation. The shut down begins. The numbers are figured, the lights go out and the lock clicks. You're in your car and you can't leave fast enough. Speed away leaving the weight of the day to disintegrate. The windows are down and the music is cranked. Belting out your victory ballads for the passerby. The air is heavy and warm and the sky is clear and black. God's fingernail illuminating the back roads, or neon and halogen on the city streets. You are on your way home. Perhaps a debate of what the night will hold. You walk in throw your keys on the table and call upon your friends. Ice cold glass, smoke filled conversation about the events of the day. It's not what you want to talk about but looking back is so much better than being there. This song reminds me of living at my old house in the summer.
