It is not dead, It's heart just beats at a slower pace

It's been a while sing I have done anything with this blog. It might be a long time before I make another post. I really have about a million excuses I could give, but who wants to read all that drivel. So I'll just say I am sorry and move on. Sorry.

Lately I have been into this band from New Jersey Called The Front Bottoms. I think the reason their music resonates with me is because it takes me back to my pop punk roots. I consider the punk phase in my music genealogy, the point where I really started to branch out and become interested in music. The Front Bottoms music is filled a happy sadness that is really found in young adulthood. The wild rebellious shell that screams I don't give a fuck on the outside, but if you manage to even so much as crack the seam you would be flooded with a mess of emotional garbage. I honestly wouldn't even consider their music to be pop punk, but for some reason it brings me back to those bands that helped me get through my late teens/early 20's. Those nights when I was pining over some girl, or mad at the world for God knows what reason. They make me miss those days, even though I really don't.

Tonight I was lurking on Youtube and I came across both of these videos from the Black Cab Sessions. I love it when live music is so good it gives me goosebumps.

“Shut up…let me tell you, LET ME. Every time I look at your face or even remember it, it wrecks me. And the way you are with me and you’re just fun and you shit all over me and you make fun of me and you’re real. I don’t have enough time in any day to think about you enough...I don’t even think about women anymore. I think about you.”

This reminds me of Elliot Smith, which is a good thing, a very good thing. Beal just got signed to XL Records, which has been cranking out some great albums the past few years. I can't wait to hear what will come next from this guy! Beal’s debut LP Acousmatic Sorcery is set to drop on March 19.
Willis Earl Beal - Evenings Kiss

Radical Face - All Is Well (Goodbye, Goodbye)

A bonus track from the Suburbs featuring David Byrne of the Talking Heads. Noice!
Arcade Fire - Speaking In Tongues (Feat. David Bryne)

The Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit released their new album titled The Lion's Roar this past week. I had a chance to hear the album and it might should come as no surprise that I love it. These sisters know how to make mountian man folk songs with beautiful harmonies. If you are a fan of Mumford And Sons you'll definitely want to check these girls out.
First Aid Kit - The Lions Roar

Unknown Mortal Orchestra - How Can U Luv Me

Deeming her sound as Doom Soul, Al Spx makes delightful haunting music. Anyone who lists Tom waits and James Carr as influences, gets instant cool points in my book.
Cold Specks - Holland

This is one of those "I found about them while on youtube" bands. I really dig this band for it's angsty emo punk rock feel. They also manage to set themselves apart from the norm with a lot of tempo changes which makes it fun to listen to. Had I known of this band at age 21, there is not a doubt in my mind, they would have been my favorite band. I do really like the band, but I was way more into the whole emo/punk thing back then. Favorite line "I've been collecting resin with your bobby pins"
Grown Ups - Three Day Weekend

The Letter F

Hey! I'm on vacation! I'm a people!
Foreign Born - Vacationing People

Um....what? These lyrics are sort of messed up, but that is what happens when you fight, stuff gets messed up. Never the less, an amazing bluesy song by a woman with a powerful voice that will smack you in the face!
Florence and The Machine - Kiss With A Fist

This song sounds like it could have came straight out of the Motown 60's when soul and R&B dominated. Surprisingly this amazing throwback is only a few years old. If that bass line doesn't get you, I suggest you check your pulse.
Fitz and The Tantrums - Breakin' the Chains of Love

Mmm, Swedish girls covering some mountain man music. I like very much! Also I should get double points because not only is this a "F" band but it's also a cover of an "F" band. musicnerdpoweractivate!
First Aid Kit - Tiger Mountain Peasant Song (Fleet Foxes Cover)

I will quite often play this song just before going to bed.
The Fugitives - French Tattoo
