I haven't been living up to my duty of updating this blog weekly like I should, so I figured I'd play a little catch up by banging out a few posts in one day. So lets get right down to it shall we? Like Moltar says "Thou shall not hesitate!" (A little Spaceghost: Coast To Coast humor for ya.)

Why don't we start out with a rocking little poppy tune from a North Wales band called The Joy Formidable. The three piece band is lead by the boyfirend girlfriend duo of Ritzy Bryan and Rhydian Dafydd as well as drummer Justin Stahley. This song has a great upbeat feel, cute female fronted vocals complete with backing "oohs" that are guaranteed to stick to your brain like a jolly rancher in the sun. Since you are already getting that sweet sensation, you might as well add the sugar rush of toe tapping drums, and fuzzed out feedback laden guitar. Pure bublegum pop at it's finest.
The Joy Formidable - Cradle

Because I like segways (No! Not the two wheeled scooter.) lets go from cute to ugly with a song called Repulsion by Quasi. This song really isn't going to make you want to run for the hills or vomit. It's just a great sonic guitar filled oddity. It's seems to be out of balance yet at the same time fit together. Kind of like an abstract painting for your ears, or like most Quasi songs in general.

I had to post this song not only because the song is funny and original, but the name of the artist is hilarious, to my immature sense of humor, as well. I mean come on! If that is really your name, your parents must have hated you. Sidenote: This song was credited (No Pun intended.) to Dick Feeler when I found it. After looking it up I discovered that his last name is Feller. Still funny but not as funny as I originally thought. I don't have a credit card. Never have had one and never really want one. Not because I don't trust myself with it, but because I know no good can come from them other than building a credit rating. I don't need that much money. If I don't have enough cash to buy what I want then I don't really need it. I don't like debt and I have plenty of payments already. Why add more? I just see it as trouble. I used to work at a bank and I could tell you stories that would make you curl into the fetal position. Instead of doing that, I'd rather you listen to this hop-a-long country song and have a chuckle.
Dick Feller - The Credit Card Song

This song has been in constant rotation and I can't figure out exactly what it is that keeps me coming back. Is it the "volume is up way to loud" distorted production? Is it the great hip hop sounding beat? The cotton candy sounding female vocals? Or, how the very last 2 seconds are completely normal? Whatever it is I like it.
Sleigh Bells - Crown On the Ground

Everyone labels music differently. Especially in the music of today. One genre bleeds into another or others and what comes out? A beautiful mish-mash that often times creates a new genre all it's own. You got your punk, new wave, emo, screamo, hardcore, metal, speed metal, alternative, indie, pop, synthpop, progressive....and on and on. It's crazy. Well I am creating my own sub genre for this song in particular. I'm calling this Speedblues, because it's one of the fastest blues songs I have heard. On January 25, 2010, Andersen won the top prize for a duo/individual in the Memphis, Tenn. International Blues Challenge, beating artists from 11 other countries. So you know this is played with skill. I can only dream of playing like this. Insane, acoustic and fun.

I think I will end today's post with a song about keeping warm. As with a lot of other cities around the U.S., Old Man Winter decided to dump a good amount of snow on us. Most of the kids have the day off from school today. I haven't tested the roads at all but I am pretty sure that by now they are safe for traveling, but they were not this morning. I loved those kind of days as a kid. Crappy in the morning, but fine by afternoon which meant going out to eat for lunch or something fun outside of the house. The funny thing is, I hate those kinds of days as an adult. If you have the day off curl up with a cup of coco and a book and throw on this heart warming romantic indie tune.

Song from Dirty Dancing. It's the record Swayze puts on the first time he and Jennifer Grey make love. Very sexy, straight from the heart, and pure emotion. Otis is the man.
Otis Redding - These Arms Of Mine

I always will connect this song to Cruel Intentions no matter what but I love this song. It's got a pretty piano and some beautiful lyrics.
The Counting Crows - Color Blind

This song was a staple song for me back in the day when I would be pining for a girl I liked. It's how you don't want the moment to end and the person to leave and it has a great last line that goes "I'm convinced that your from Mars"

A rap love song that focus on conversation and getting to know one another rather than hittin' skins.
Dead Prez - Mind Sex

This song is what Sir Paul would describe as a silly love song. It's playful as are most Of Montreal songs and the title pretty much sums up the song quite nicely.

Mandatory Music Monday

Alright, this is going to be a test. I am going to try my best to keep this blog updated on a regular basis for more than a few reasons. Reason one is you the reader (however many of you are out there). I love getting people turned on to new music, especially good music. I hate it when people are oblivious to all thats out there or only listen to "Clear Channel Hits", as I like to call them. There is more out there than just what is played on the radio. Don't get me wrong sometimes I love the Top Pop songs, but I'd rather support the little guy. The second reason is because I love music! I'm constantly checking out music blogs and podcasts and reviews. I wish I could add going to shows in there but recent events complicate that matter. So I am going to attempt to make a man out of this blog and try to update at least three times a week. There will be Mandatory Music Mondays where I'll post music that I have been listening to non stop. There will be Whatever Wednesdays where I'll post random songs or just songs to get you through the rest of the week. I think Wednesday posts will have more songs. Last but not lest will be Feel Good Fridays! These are the songs that will make you happy cause Fridays are always good days, unless you start work on Friday then...well it sucks to be you. Like I said the Wed. posts will have a few more songs than Mon. and Fri. Then if I feel like posting something else through out the week I will. Also I'm always up for suggestions if anyone has any. Just shoot me an E-mail to ropbopblog@yahoo.com. So that is the plan. Notice I use the word "try". I can't guarantee that I'm going to post every time, but I'll make a decent effort to. With that said here is the first Mandatory Music Monday or Mx3 Post. This one will be long because it's the first one.

I am a white kid who loves rap. I love everything from the gangsta rap to indie rap. I also bump that shit when I am driving in my car loudly and with pride. I know I'm not cool. I'm a geek who loves Star Wars, animated shows, and NPR. I'm no where near being hard, but I like to pretend I am. This is a song for all those haters. Werd up homeslice.
The Cool Kids - A Little Bit Cooler

Recently there was a music festival that happened called South By South West. It's one of the largest music festivals and it's where all the new talent has a chance to shine on stage. It's also a music nerds wet dream. Almost every single blog, podcast or review I read mentioned something about this band. This Boston MA one man band is said to have created a CD for his girlfriend on Valentines Day with songs he made and it ended up getting passed around in his circle of friends and then their friends and so on, and with good reason. The songs were liked so much that some live gigs were played with people filling in to create the band. Eventually they were picked up by record label Frenchkiss and will have a release coming out soon. I have only heard a few tracks by them and they have been stuck in my head for the past 4 days. It's danceable but not dance music, it's emotional but not emo, it's indie but doesn't suck. I'll be picking up this album when it drops for sure.
Passion Pit - Sleepyhead

I am a sucker for folksy acoustic emoish songs. There are probably a million songs that are similar to this that I'll post but every now and then one will come along and grab me by the soul strings and pluck away. This is one of them. It's fast paced, the drums boom like a heartbeat, the bass is subtle but amazing and I think I might hear a banjo. The title is sweet too.
Mumford and Sons - Little Lion Man

The First time I heard this song I was left with a feeling of "what the hell did I just hear" The Scandinavian collective Dungen mix psychedelic layered pop straight out of the 60's in a modern style. The time changes are crazy and the vocals, although in a different language, blend perfectly. This song is one of those mix tape powerhouses that will guarantee to blow the listeners mind.
