I heard about the The Phenomenal Handclap Band last year on NPR's All Songs Considered, while they were doing their coverage of The SXSW Festival. I remember the name of the band but if memory serves me correctly I don't think I was all that impressed. I went back and I was correct, I didn't really dig them. They are sort of all over, which some might like, but I found it sort of irritating. However, when I heard this song I instantly had to share it. The song Baby is like drinking a cold spiked lemonade in a 1970's soul bar with 90 degree heat and no fan. It's tinged with sadness, yet posses that ultra coolness attitude with a lyric like "Baby I could rule the world\with a girl like you\on my arm." I may not like most of their songs but this one is a definite keeper. P.S.If you don't know what either All Songs Considered or SXSW are then I suggest you click on the links and find out. You can thank me later.

Yeasayer(pronounced /ˈjeɪseɪ.ər/) is a band that seems to be getting a lot of love from the music blogs lately and for a good reason. The band recently released their second album Odd Blood and I would also predict that it will be a big contender for the best of lists at the end of the year. The album is filled with a great blend of electro pop catchiness, and experimental psychedelic elements (think Animal Collective's album Merriweather Post Pavilion only less trippy sounding.) I had the song Ambling Up in my iTunes for a while now just sitting there. I listend to it once but that was it, not realizing that there was this fun tune hiding among the others. Sometimes that's just how it happens. Now I can't stop listening to it or suggesting it to everyone. It makes me wonder what other gems got buried?
Yeasayer - Ambling Alp

Mash-ups have become insanely popular in the last few years, most notable was The Grey Album: The Beatles vs. Jay-Z by DJ Dangermouse, which opened the flood gates for anyone with editing equipment, time, talent and an ear for music to make a mash-up. Although not always great, it makes for some really interesting listening. Like Dangermouse, we have a new contender who is trying to make a name for himself. DJ Tom Caruana just recently entered the mash-up album arena with his amazing mix of one of the most revered bands in rock music, The Beatles, with one of the most revered acts in hip-hop, The Wu-Tang Clan. If you are considering passing this up because you already heard The Grey Album, I would suggest that you don't. The album does a great job of intertwining the two artists. Unlike The Grey Album Caruana has used original Beatles tracks along with the members solo work, covers, and interviews. All this makes it a unique and diverse back drop over the crisp flow of the Wu's lyrics. I think it's safe to say that it's going to give not only mash-up albums a run for their money but also the best albums of 2010. I choose this track Not because it's the best off of the album, but because it made me laugh a lot. Where else are you going to hear O.D.B.'s wacky "Got Your Money" over The Beatles chilled out "You Never Give Me Your Money"? If you want to download the mix though you might have to do some searching (Don't worry I found it in two seconds.) I'll give the link where I found it, but it might not last forever. The original site has already taken it down, but there are plenty of other ways to get it.
Wu-Tang vs. The Beatles - Got Your Money

Just like in past entries, I am going to reveal something about my personal musical taste. I have never really liked the music of the 80's. As far as I am concerned the only good music the come out of that decade was some of the one hit wonders, and The Cure. Everything else is just sort of blah sounding to me. However, my faith in 80's music has been restored. In my travels I came across a bunch of really good 80's songs that I like a lot. Most of the bands I had never even heard of, which makes sense since I didn't like that style of music. I still can not say it's my favorite type of music but, it's not the last on my list anymore. With that being said let me share a few of my findings with you.

Tottaly captures that 80's sound. Very scifi.
Berndsen - The Perfect Human (No Longer Available)

The USM stand for Unstoppable Sex Machine! Great 80's indie band. Technically this was released in 1989 but the sound is 90's indie rock all the way.
Carter USM - Sheriff Fatman

Sort of creepy and dark but cool.
Kate Bush - Get Out Of My House

Just a flat out amazing band. Fun and very catchy.
The The Proclaimers - Throw the 'R' Away

No Music Just Hot Juicy Linkage

Once again I am going to provide you with some sweet music related links. Enjoy!

Playing The Beatles Backwards: The Ultimate Countdown.
Have you ever wanted a list of Beatles songs ranked with insight as to why the song is ranked the way it is, as well as interesting tidbits on the songs? Do you love to get into music debates over a bands "best song" only to come to the conclusion that no one will ever agree? Me too. I came across this interesting article. Of course I have not read the whole thing yet but someday I will. I don't agree on the ranking, and don't think there will ever be anyone who will, but I do give the author credit. I am sure that this list took weeks to create and that right there is a reason for me to read through it. You might find a new Beatles song you like. Since we are ranking things, how about taking a look at this one too. The Ultimate Ranking: Every Radiohead Song

I haven't been living up to my duty of updating this blog weekly like I should, so I figured I'd play a little catch up by banging out a few posts in one day. So lets get right down to it shall we? Like Moltar says "Thou shall not hesitate!" (A little Spaceghost: Coast To Coast humor for ya.)

Why don't we start out with a rocking little poppy tune from a North Wales band called The Joy Formidable. The three piece band is lead by the boyfirend girlfriend duo of Ritzy Bryan and Rhydian Dafydd as well as drummer Justin Stahley. This song has a great upbeat feel, cute female fronted vocals complete with backing "oohs" that are guaranteed to stick to your brain like a jolly rancher in the sun. Since you are already getting that sweet sensation, you might as well add the sugar rush of toe tapping drums, and fuzzed out feedback laden guitar. Pure bublegum pop at it's finest.
The Joy Formidable - Cradle

Because I like segways (No! Not the two wheeled scooter.) lets go from cute to ugly with a song called Repulsion by Quasi. This song really isn't going to make you want to run for the hills or vomit. It's just a great sonic guitar filled oddity. It's seems to be out of balance yet at the same time fit together. Kind of like an abstract painting for your ears, or like most Quasi songs in general.
Quasi - Repulsion

I had to post this song not only because the song is funny and original, but the name of the artist is hilarious, to my immature sense of humor, as well. I mean come on! If that is really your name, your parents must have hated you. Sidenote: This song was credited (No Pun intended.) to Dick Feeler when I found it. After looking it up I discovered that his last name is Feller. Still funny but not as funny as I originally thought. I don't have a credit card. Never have had one and never really want one. Not because I don't trust myself with it, but because I know no good can come from them other than building a credit rating. I don't need that much money. If I don't have enough cash to buy what I want then I don't really need it. I don't like debt and I have plenty of payments already. Why add more? I just see it as trouble. I used to work at a bank and I could tell you stories that would make you curl into the fetal position. Instead of doing that, I'd rather you listen to this hop-a-long country song and have a chuckle.
Dick Feller - The Credit Card Song

This song has been in constant rotation and I can't figure out exactly what it is that keeps me coming back. Is it the "volume is up way to loud" distorted production? Is it the great hip hop sounding beat? The cotton candy sounding female vocals? Or, how the very last 2 seconds are completely normal? Whatever it is I like it.
Sleigh Bells - Crown On the Ground

Everyone labels music differently. Especially in the music of today. One genre bleeds into another or others and what comes out? A beautiful mish-mash that often times creates a new genre all it's own. You got your punk, new wave, emo, screamo, hardcore, metal, speed metal, alternative, indie, pop, synthpop, progressive....and on and on. It's crazy. Well I am creating my own sub genre for this song in particular. I'm calling this Speedblues, because it's one of the fastest blues songs I have heard. On January 25, 2010, Andersen won the top prize for a duo/individual in the Memphis, Tenn. International Blues Challenge, beating artists from 11 other countries. So you know this is played with skill. I can only dream of playing like this. Insane, acoustic and fun.
Matt Andersen - Tell Me

I think I will end today's post with a song about keeping warm. As with a lot of other cities around the U.S., Old Man Winter decided to dump a good amount of snow on us. Most of the kids have the day off from school today. I haven't tested the roads at all but I am pretty sure that by now they are safe for traveling, but they were not this morning. I loved those kind of days as a kid. Crappy in the morning, but fine by afternoon which meant going out to eat for lunch or something fun outside of the house. The funny thing is, I hate those kinds of days as an adult. If you have the day off curl up with a cup of coco and a book and throw on this heart warming romantic indie tune.
Ida Maria - Keep Me Warm

Cover this!

As I was lurking around on the internet, enjoying my bowl of frosted mini wheats, when I came across a post called 10 Cover Songs Better Than The Originals. I read thorough the article and the comments, and was shocked and appalled at what I read. There were only two songs I agreed with (Gary Jules version of Mad World, Beatles version of Twist And Shout) This got me thinking about covers and what covers I think are better than the original. Well that's what our post will be all about today. Of course everyone has their own opinions, so make a comment and give me your favorite cover.

Let me start out by saying I love Neil Young and his version of this song. I'm a huge fan and accept that some may disagree with me on my choice of this cover being better than the original. Why is it that I think this cover is superior to the original? I am a fan of anything with piano, and this song sounds great, if not better on the piano. It gives the song a much more melancholy feel than an acoustic guitar. I consider both acoustic guitar and piano intimate instruments and I am glad the artist decided to keep that feel for the cover. On top of that you add the bluesy cries, and raspy vocals of Betty Lavette and it adds 10 times more feeling than what Neils voice did. Again, don't get me wrong, I love Neils voice, but I think on Betty just adds that missing "feeling" to the songs great lyrics.
Bettye Lavette - Heart Of Gold (Neil Young Cover)

Edit: I couldn't find the live cover I had originally, so here is the regular cover

I am going to be honest and admit that I have never been a fan of Nico's voice. There are a few songs she did with the Velvet Underground that I can tolerate but most of them I can't stand. The only song I really enjoy by her is These Days, and that wasn't with the VU. Her voice fits perfect on that song. I think it's because she has an awkward manly voice that really doesn't have much range. All the songs she sings on sound very similar no matter how good the backing music is. She just ruins it for me. I'll Be Your Mirror proves my point. Seriously go listen to the original and then listen to this one and tell me different. I like the backing music on it but her voice...*shudders*. This cover however, is beautiful. It's slowed down with only acoustic guitar and an added string section that I believe truly brings out the beauty in the song. It's neat how the instrumentation pulls out the lyrics more than the original.
Clem Snide - I'll Be Your Mirror (Velvet Underground Cover)

I just recently discovered the Buzzcocks, and I wish I had heard about them years ago. I did know of their name back in High School because a kid used to wear the bright colored yellow shirt with pink lettering that said Buzzcocks on it. However I never looked them up. It was before the internet days. The sole reason I checked them out was because of this amazing cover by Sportsday Megaphone. This cover is from a great mix called Buffetlibre Rewind 2. Buffetlibre has been talked about on RopBop before due to his great remix of the Patrick Wolf song "Who Will?". Let me assure you that all the remixes done by BL are killer. This cover is great because it takes the 1978 punk rock original and transforms into a blippy electro jam made for the 20th century. If you went back in time and played this song for the buzzcocks you could tell them this is what music sounds like in the future, of course they would probably hate it.
Sportsday Megaphone - Ever Fallen In Love (BL rewind 2)(Buzzcocks Cover)

There are a lot of great covers The Man In Black did before he passed on, but I think his version of Rusty Cage is one of the best. I originally was going to choose Cash covering I Won't Back Down, but after comparing the two, Tom Petty won. Cash has a certain knack of making most of his covers sound tough and gristly, this cover is no exception. Soundgarden made the original great for moshing and head banging with it's, true Seattle alternative vibe. Cash makes this song into a badass in the prison yard with his commanding voice and stripped down sound.
Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage (Soundgarden Cover)

I don't know how many people would be familiar with the band Polaris, but if I mentioned The Adventures Of Pete And Pete theme song you might be familiar with them. They were the creators of the opening song "Hey Sandy" and were featured as the band in the episode Hard Day's Pete. What is so unique is that the bands only album release was called Music from The Adventures of Pete & Pete which is where this song came from. It's definitely 90's alternative college radio music. Nothing really spectacular, but still unappreciated. Thankfully The National gives the band some love by doing an amazing cover of Ashamed Of The Story I Told. I wouldn't give it a second thought to say that this song was meant to be sung by The National. I couldn't think of a better band to cover it.
The National - Ashamed Of The Story I Told (Polaris Cover)

All that David Copperfield crap

After an On Demand marathon of Heroes, I was flipping through the channels and I came across the news on PBS. To be honest I never even knew that PBS had a news program. What stopped my make-it-go-away button masher of a finger was the news that the author of one of my all time favorite books had passed away. Mr. J.D. Salinger. Although he only left 4 books behind in his career all of them were, in my opinion, great works that I have read more than a few times, and plan on reading a few more times as well. I have no idea what made me read Catcher In The Rye. I am pretty sure it was not required reading in my high school curriculum as you'll find with a lot of people. I instead had to read A Separate Peace, which I did not like at all. I think I heard about it on a movie or in a song. It's referenced around quite a bit in pop culture. Which ever way it was that I came to read the book, I am glad I did. I'm not much of a big reader, never have been and I am still trying to be, but that book and his others will be a staple of my collection until I pass on into the afterlife as well. R.I.P. J.D. Salinger, thanks for letting us know the truth.
Piebald - Holden Caulfield

I'm gonna get down and nerdy on yo' ass right 'bout now. Get yo' crew, grab yo' joysticks an meet me in the arcade at dawn. We gonna' battle in 8 bit. When victory comes to these skilled hands your ears will hear "You loose!" Then imma go grab my bike with the light scoop up yo' girl and take her back to my moms crib. We gonna RPG all night. Aww yea! Foo!
Tugboat - Remix Medley #1

Oh yeah? Well I may have been defeated in your world of potions, big guns and finishers, but I have a secret warp zone of my own. It's called the highway to the heart. So while you are trying to level up on my girl, I'm going to take the pencil out of my pocket protector and write a song sooo sweet that I'll win her back. Just remember to enjoy the time you spend with her because it's going to be your final fantasy. I'm catching a star, throwing down a POW, catching her in my Kart and laying some peels. You'll be eating my dust and crying at the finish line.
Sam Hart - Mario Kart Love Song

Journal Entry #356,
My concentration is totally been broken off from my reading and I just can't seem to get it back on track. It was broken by the nerds at the other side of the table. They are constantly babbling about some stupid card game or which computer is better or some dumb thing. Today it's video games, or a video game competition. I tried not to catch any of it. I hate the nerd table! Where else am I supposed to be though? I'm smart, shy and on a good day I might throw in my two cents on a nerd conversation. Hell, they don't even like me. I don't care if they do or don't. It's alright though I am glad I got thrown off. I didn't even realize that Lena Holcome was in direct line of sight. I swear to God, that girl is everything I am not, and everything I want. I don't see how a quiet guy like me would ever get Lenas attention. I ran into her once in the hallway. By that I mean I RAN into her. I was walking backwards talking to Mrs. Colebrook, my Mom's best friend, and I turn around and..Bam! I crashed into her. Spilling her books and papers. I helped and she smiled at me and said thanks. Of course I was so lost in her eyes I couldn't even utter a single word except "Sorry...uh...I..." All I could do was give was a goofy smile and a point in the direction I was going. Ugh, totally blew that one, but it was totally great to look in her eyes and hear her speak to me. She probably doesn't know I exist. Woah! The nerds are getting heated in their debate. One dude thinks he's the Master of Awesome Town and talks like a gangsta all the time. I hate that kid. The other guy is pretty cool for a nerd. The less lord of the rings out of the bunch. Damn, the G'd up king of the nerds just flipped out. Slammed his chair to the ground and stormed out shouting something about RPGing all night. The other dude was sort of following him shouting as well. I think we just witnessed a nerd throw down...and Lenas looking at me. Quick eyes, look down. Pretend your doing something other than staring at her. Hmmm, I wonder if she's still looking at me. Nope, she's gone, and she's heading this way looking at me. Later.
Dawson High - She's My Girl (No Longer Available)

Dear Diary,
Last weekend was so much fun. Tom threw a party on Friday night which got busted somewhere around 1pm. Whats new. I was buzzed enough though, and I am glad it was busted, I didn't really want to crash there. Waking up with God knows who or what next to me. I rode with Cassidy, Sarah, and he brother Ryan. We went to the Starlite for some food before we went home. On Saturday I went to the mall with Brent and Hillary. Brent has a Mustang, which is so damn cool. Hill is so lucky to find a sweet guy. Scott asked me out last week in third period. I was like "Dude, sorry I don't think so." I'm might hang out with the cool kids but I'm not about to date one. If I learned anything from being around these popular kids it's that they go through relationships like their pills. One after another. I'm not into that. I want something better than to one day be the headline and then next be yesterdays news. I only even know half of these people because I am friends with Sarah and Hill. When we were at the mall I saw that kid Charlie that ran into me a few months ago. I don't think he saw me. I saw him in the book store. When he first ran into me I was super pissed. These idiots around here never look where their going. He nailed me so hard it made me drop everything. As soon as I saw who it was I decided I wasn't so upset. He was cute in his nice little cardigan and Buddy Holly frames; scrambling to help clean up the mess. When he looked at me, for some reason I couldn't stop looking at him. He was looking right in my eyes, like he was seeing the most cool thing in the world. I'm sure it was just me being all girly though. He sort of stammered for a second with a funny look, pointed and walked away. I'd like to date a shy guy, I think. I dig the mysterious smart guys. The other day at lunch I noticed him trying to be sly at pretending he wasn't looking at me. Peering over a copy of Catcher In The Rye. I think he's into me, which is cool. I'm trying to send signals out to him but nothing is really happening. I know he's smart so maybe he's just a little socially awkward. Of course because he sits at the nerd table I noticed that some of them have been eying me as well. Ew. I think I am going to go talk to him next time I see him. I don't need Paul "the zit" Stigller asking me out.
The Pipettes - ABC

So this does not intertwine with any of the previous blurbs because I wrote most of this last night, but I came across this today while I was finishing up this post and I had to share it. There is a podcast called the The Opie And Anthony Show. I never have heard it before, but I know of the show only by it's name. I am pretty sure it's a big hit in the iTunes comedy podcast section. From what little I read I guess they sometimes have homeless people come in and talk to them on their show. In return give them some fresh clothes and maybe a meal. Like I said I have never listened to their show so I don't know, just going on comments people left on this video. Anyway this guy who calls himself Mustard did a cover of Creep by Radiohead and it's amazing. What a great raspy bluesy voice. If he put out a CD I would definitely buy it. as an added bonus you can click here for 3 other great songs by Daniel Mustard.

Space, Two guys and a Girls, some creative writing and Kennedy hallucinations.

I was probably 8 the first time I went to Disney World with my family. One of the greatest memories of that trip was going on Space Mountain. I am pretty sure that I had been on roller coasters before that, I think it was The Beast at Kings Island. However, I had never been on a indoor roller coaster before, let alone an indoor roller coaster where you were immersed in total darkness. I remember waiting in line with such sweaty palm, listening to them repeat words "darkness" and "speed". We had to wait a while in line too and every step closer and every script repetition I got more and more scared. I was also pretty freaked by the feeling of foreignness with all the space talk, insane lighting, and blips and bloops. I knew I was in for something intense. I wouldn't be surprised if I begged my parents to turn around and walk out. They didn't. So I got in the shuttle, checked that I was strapped in good and tight about fifty thousand times and put my death grip on that "Oh shit!" bar until my knuckles turned white. My Dad sat next to me and cracked jokes about how I looked like a ghost and assured me, while laughing, that everything was going to be fine. As soon as we got to the tunnel with the lights that move faster and faster I shut my eyes and braced myself. I think I might have seen maybe 3 seconds of the rides scenery. I specifically remember my Dad yelling "Open your eyes! It's awesome!" I opened them once and remember seeing things flying at me through the dark and instantly shut them and screamed. I didn't open them again until we were slowed down and didn't let go of the bar until the train stopped completely. Lets just say that was the first time my mind had been blown, and I didn't even see anything. Years later I went back and I had my eyes opened the whole way and I loved it. I still didn't let go of the bar (and I still don't even though I love roller coasters). Every time I hear this song by The Life And Times it reminds me of that ride. It's intense, spacey, and comes at you a million miles an hour.
The Life And Times - Confetti

If you haven't heard of Langhorne Slim, you might have heard a song of his in a Travelers Insurance commercial. If you don't watch TV or pay attention to the music in commercials like me then you are a lot cooler than I am and are in for a treat. I just started to get into him but he's been around touring for the last couple years with band such as The Violent Femmes, Lucero, The Avett Brothers and has been on the Bonaroo music festival roster. His laid back folk style is very catchy, not too twangy, which is a nice thing to say for once about a folk musician. I love the twang but it's nice to get away from the country connotations when using the word "folk music". He has a nice voice that ranges from cries of excited passion to soft and smooth. If you like good jangly acoustic R&B infused pop rock songs then give Ol' Slim a try. I'm sure you'll be glad you did. I'd also suggest the song Say Yes or I Love You, But Goodbye which are my other favorites.
Langhorne Slim - Worries

As I was doing a little research about the band Girls I came across and interesting tidbit about the band's lead singer, Christopher Owens. Christopher is a former member of the Children of God cult. Which started in 1968 in Huntington Beach, California. It closely follows the basic theology within the historical Christian tradition, however they have many non-traditional views. One belief is that the meaning of "keys to the kingdom" is more literal than figurative. Believing that the spiritual keys are able to power various spiritual spacecrafts known as Key Craft), and can turn into spiritual swords for the purpose of fighting demons and other negative forces. There are also skewed views on sex as well. They believe in the "free love" ideal that was a mainstay of the hippie generation. They believe that male homosexuality, is sin. Female bisexuality is sanctioned, though female homosexuality at the complete exclusion of men is not permitted. There is also the belief that loving Jesus means having an intimate sexual relationship with him by encouraging members to imagine that Jesus is having sex with them during sexual intercourse and masturbation. There are a lot of other "interesting" views and practices as well but for the sake of keeping it short I won't go into it. If you want to read more about it rock a wiki on it or click here to be lazy. Either way he was a former member and now makes great pop songs that carry on that surf music vibe that the Beach Boys held only less 60's and more indie.
Girls - Lust For Life

I cannot tell you how many times I have listened to the soothing chain smoked voice of singer Eric Bachmann and drifted off into a land of soft clouds and sad angels. In fact I did a few art pieces, shown above, based on the music of his main band the Crooked Fingers (primarily from their first proper self titled full length album). He was also a member of the now defunct band Archers Of Loaf who made a decent name for themselves in the 90's. I had the great opportunity to Crooked Fingers play in a small venue called the Intersection before it became a huge venue. In the middle of their set the band came out into the middle of the floor, had the audience surround them and played a few songs. It was a small crowd, sadly for them, thankfully for me, but it was one of the coolest concert moments I had ever experienced. I would advise you, in good musical taste, to go and track down a copy of Crooked Fingers self titled album as it is soft and well written. This song will give you a guidepost of the beautiful music you will hear.
Eric Bachmann - Man O'War

As I run through the tall grassy field, illuminated by a moon so gigantic I swear it will com crashing into me, I gasp for breath and prey I don't fall. I know it's after me, but I fear that looking back again will lead to my demise. I picture turning my head and meeting the beast sparkling blue eye, to enraged fire lit red eye. Smelling the awful breath, freshly baited with the foul stench of death and hands like sharp knives ready to tear and bruise my warm flesh. In the distance is my only chance of refuge, a twisted dense forest. Laid with a wall of fog so thick that even the keenest eye would be dulled. Behind me I can hear the footsteps, the yells, screams and exhausted panting of my fellow villagers break the crisp night air. All I can do is pray that they too find their wits in a moment of terror and make for trees. It may not be much but it's better than being target in the open or eventually being found in the most obvious hiding spaces. After what seems like a lifetime, I finally hit the tree line, ducking into the darkness behind the first trunk large enough to hide my cloaked figure. I dig my hands deep into the wet soil at my feet and clench two handfuls and bring them to my face. I need to make my pale skin as invisible as possible. With my hood covering my blond hair I peek out onto the vast field amazed at how fast I made it here. I see nothing that puts me in immediate danger, but I know it's out there, or here. God, I hope it's not here. I see what I used to call my home. Now the miniature shapes of homes and stables are war torn and ablaze. I hear faded shouts, grunts, roars and the scent of burning fills the air. I see clouds of black smoke pouring across the moon, I look into the woods I see sheets of white covering the faint outlined maze of trees and brush. To my left a steady beat of heels hitting the ground coming closer. The thunderous sound quickens. Time to move again. I was raised along this wood and I should be able to navigate better but still find my feet heavy and clumsily half tripping on the uproots. Still I am sure I manage better than the monster behind, or so I hope. I know a place, a safe haven buried deep by the trees and hidden amongst the earth. If I can make it I'll be safe for a while, maybe even dawn if I'm lucky. As I continue to weave and zig zag through the leaves and twisted branches the sound behind me, although considerably closer than moments before, stops. I'm not about to follow suit and investigate but the intrigue is weighing on my mind. So much so that I stop paying attention to the terrain and snag my foot on a large arched root and fall to my face. Nothing is damaged, but the wind is no longer inside my chest. I'm not sure if it is due to the running or the fall, both probably. All I can do is lay there trying to breathe silently through my nose. I survey the area to regain my bearings. Luckily I landed in a thicket of weak brush and I know where I am. I am about fifty yards from the makeshift hiding spot. I turn on my back, almost ready spring up once again and I hear the snapping of twigs. A short distance away I spot two hulking figures making their way through the mist. I quickly turn back over and cover myself as much as I can with my dark cloak, retracting like a turtle in it's shell. However, my cloak is not a shell. I might not be seen but there is a chance I may get stepped on. The brush I so gracefully landed in also helps to conceal me but it's not enough. They have eyes like a hawk, and their sense of smell far out ranks ours. they are coming closer and I can hear their loud labored breathing and disgruntled snorts. If I am caught I am dead. I have no weapon and even if I did their skin is as tough as leather. I'd for sure be torn limb from limb in an instant. Now my only hope recourse is utter silence and timing. I am able to see through a small hole in the seam of my cloak and they are mere feet in front of me. I can see their disgusting toenails and the scent of mold and fish water fills my nostrils. They stop a few feet past me, no longer in my view, share some grunts and move along. I wait. I wait for at least an hour before I even move from my compacted state, before I even let out a sigh of relief. After a short silent prayer and a scan and rescan through the hole I expand once again, still on my stomach, careful not to let my color show against the forest floor. Movement is a little tough as my muscles are tired, wore and had cramped up while hiding. I decide that standing up would not be a wise decision at this point, even with the cover of night and fog, and slowly make way to the safety spot. Once I reach the destination I lift the concealing brush cover and climb inside the enclosure. It's not my bedroom but I should be safe here until sunrise, if it finds me before they do.

...and now for something completely different. "Above all, we are coming to understand that the arts incarnate the creativity of a free people. When the creative impulse cannot flourish, when it cannot freely select its methods and objects, when it is deprived of spontaneity, then society severs the root of art."

Hello, it's been a few weeks since I have posted anything and it feels good to be back. I had some downtime. So where was I? First of all there was all the Christmas craziness. I got a lot of clothes, gift cards, candy and food. It was a pretty good Christmas. Spent quality time with the fam, rocked some guitar hero with the brother in law and nephews, had a cupcake fight with my sister and step sister, and watched A Christmas Story about 5 times. The week between Christmas and New Years I didn't do much. I had no money to do anything and there wasn't much to do. I visited friends a few times but mostly laid back. New years was great. My friend and his wife came up from VA. I had not seen them in a year, maybe longer. So for the first 6 days of the new year it was one night of drinking, one night back home. Good times. However I managed to pick up a nasty cold. Not good times. I was down for a week and I am still not 100% over it, I'm feeling a lot better though. So anywho, happy 2010. Here's to a better year, a better decade, and better tunes.

Harlem Shakes - Strictly Game

Scene 24
Setup: Two lovers get into a car crash. One survives, one tragically passes away. The deceased becomes a ghost, but bound by love, can not pass into the afterlife until his lover dies as well. The living lover ends up living for years, she grieves for a long time but eventually moves on and falls in love with another. The ghost is not angry, or heartbroken just sad and jealous. A bittersweet feeling.
Scene: Dark moonlight room. Big window open and silky drapes blowing softly in the night air. Bedroom: hardwood floors, minimal decor, night stand, lamp, 4 post bed. Man and woman (living wife and new lover) holding each other, embracing, fast asleep. In front of the window ghostly figure stars down at the couple. Eerily misty and see through, Features barley recognizable yet face shows sadness and longing. Song starts (Arch Angel by Burial) Flash backs of their (ghost and womans) time spent together, As song progresses flashbacks get more rapid and man slowly starts to fade more and more in each flashback. New relationship (new lover and woman) flashbacks from ghosts perspective start to slowly replace old flashbacks intertwined with haunting ghost like images. Ex. New relationship passionate love making followed by ghost thrashing around trying to throw things off the walls and smash things, inside view of heartbeats etc. Anger, passion, love, sadness, longing. This is dance music for sad ghosts.
Burial - Arch Angel

With each movement you can hear the squeaks of tightly pulled leather expanding and retracting. The steady rhythm of clop clop clop clop flows from his heavy rugged footsteps. Those clothes were made to take a beating, and by the look of things they have seen their fair share of smoky bar room brawls. With pounds of metal, chrome and power between his legs, he flicks the kickstand with with a steel toe, and with one fluid stomp he brings the the bike to life. There is the initial pur and with a twist of the wrist the roar of a lion. He rides off into the night. The motor screaming out for miles, like an invisible beast ready to kill.
Kings Of The Sun - Black Leather

I discovered this band by surfing the butthole of the internet that is known as 4chan. Every now and then a golden nugget is bound to come out and in this case, the gold turd is called Black Lab. Okay so actually they aren't crappy at all. Alright I promise I'll stop with the poop jokes. This song is full of radio quality goodness. However it's not a song that I would get annoyed with hearing over and over again. I could see how some might not like it but it's better than Creed. So I guess you could say they're the shit. Sorry couldn't help myself.
